How to Wipe Your Chromebook

Before you are able to wipe your Chromebook, a member of the Tech Department must remove it from the district’s management system.

Once that is done, follow the steps below.

1. Press Esc + Refresh + Power. The device will reboot and then a screen with a yellow exclamation point (!) or "Please insert a recovery USB stick" is displayed. (You do not have to be logged in)

2. Press Ctrl+D. This will switch the device into developer mode and ask for confirmation. Press Enter to confirm.

3. The device will reboot again and you will be prompted with a screen that the device is in Developer Mode. On this screen press the Space bar, then you will be asked to press Enter to confirm. This will switch your device back out of Developer Mode and wipe all data on the device, giving you a clean install of ChromeOS.

4. After the Chromebook reboots, simply follow the prompts on the screen to get the device setup. Once you are prompted to login, make sure you sign in using your own personal Gmail account. It is very important that you DO NOT use your Grant account to login as this will still have the district’s restrictions in place. Also, your Grant account will be deactivated shortly after your departure from the district.
